Rei Ayanami is by far one of the coolest charcters in all of "Neon Genesis Evangelion". For one, she's always calm and collected (except for when she's in serious pain while piloting her Eva).

Rei Ayanami starts off in the series as a strange girl that EVERY guy in school thinks is hot. she's quiet and never tells anyone anything. She lives alone in a very messy apartment, it's full of old bandages and the like. She's actually the First Child, selected to pilot Eva unit 00. Rei is also the clone of Shinji's mother, and when one Rei dies: another takes her place...

Why do I like Rei Ayanami:

Ok look here, Rei is probably the coolest character in the show. She's calm, she's collected, she doesn't have an ego complex or self esteem issues of any sort. She does her job, that's all there is to it. She doesn't go to impress the other people, she doesn't care what they think and besides...
